About Me
Welcome to my online portfolio. My name is Lauren Anderson, and I have taught first grade for three years at Red Cedar Elementary in East Lansing, Michigan. Prior to that, I student taught in a second grade classroom at Woodlawn Community School in Chicago, Illinois. Both experiences have taught me to truly value children's backgrounds and use these rich differences to enhance and enrich each student's learning experience.
My teaching philosophy begins with the belief that each child brings valuable knowledge and background into a classroom, and these incredible gifts should be explored and, ideally, shared. I believe that teaching involves getting to know your students on an individual level while creating an atmosphere in which students feel comfortable interacting not only with their peers, but also with the educator. I also believe in integrating technology in my classroom to enhance learning experiences of each and every child. While integrating technology is an area I feel very strongly about, I also think that it is important to keep in mind the rationale behind integration. Technology, pedagogy, content and context should all work together in order to effectively integrate technology into a specific content area.
